We’re going to let you in on a little secret. Our favourite bit about a lehenga, the tiniest, cutest little detail that makes our hearts melt into a gooey mess, are those cutesy tassels attached to the dori that holds the skirt together. Latkans are all the rage these days, especially since our uber smart modern day brides have learned their way around the fun danglers.
Though tassels aren’t always found in lehengas (they add a hint of brightness and spark to dupattas as well), these days it’s difficult to find a lehenga skirt that comes without a tassel. Thanks to the dozens of kinds of tassels, and the even bigger variety of colours and sizes in which these are found, latkans have dominated the market when it comes to making a lehenga or a dupatta shine that extra bit. When it comes to lehengas, latkans in a contrasting colour can make the lehenga look striking yet not too heavy, while incorporating that one colour in your lehenga you thought was too bold! Think of a neon green blouse with a pink skirt. Too much? Just replace the green of the blouse, instead getting a green latkan. You have a beautiful contrast, yet nothing too heavy for a mehendi or sangeet ceremony.
