At one point in time, many, many years ago, the Sangeet Ceremony used to be a homely affair. All the women of the bridal party would get together and sing folk wedding songs to celebrate. The modern version the “Ladies Sangeet” is very different. It is now an exciting, glamorous affair. Everyone is dressed to the nines, choreographed dances are performed and men-folk are allowed too. And it goes without saying that the bride-to-be is the centre of attention; her clothes, makeup and jewellery are under deep scrutiny. When you know everyone’s going to be staring, make it worth their while! Look stunning on your Sangeet Ceremony – here are some tips so you get the look just right.

1. Wear Something Different – Since it is an Indian wedding, more likely than not, you’ll be wearing traditional ethnic outfits on most occasions. But the Sangeet is a more casual affair where you can go a little wild with your outfit. Ditch the traditional suits, sarees and lehengas. Go in for an ethnic gown, a lehenga-saree, a dhoti-choli or an Indo-western fusion outfit. This way, you’ll not just stand out in the crowd, you’ll get a welcome break from all the typical bridal outfits.

2. Keep the makeup minimal – If there is any one function where a bride-to-be can pull off the “barely-there” makeup look, this is it. Literally speaking, you have the freedom to go in for any hairstyle you like, as long as it’s striking and fancy. On the wedding day, you’ll probably need to have your hair pinned up to support the dupatta or pallu, but on the Sangeet, you’re a free bird. 4. Wear Comfy Shoes – Mostly, the Sangeet ends up being a night full of endless dancing and merriment. You want to be as comfortable as possible so you can enjoy it all without any constraints. Wear flats, such as juttis or ethnic chappals/sandals and you can then move around freely. There is nothing more shabby than an awkward bride-to-be who is tottering about in her heels, barely able to walk or dance.
