New Jersey Indian Mehndi Party by Enamor Me - 1

Hi readers! Today I am extra excited to present to you a wedding that is very near and dear to me, because it happens to be none other than my own!

Most little girls all dream about their wedding day, which is why when I finally got engaged to my boyfriend of four years I was so excited to put all those years of event planning and daydreaming to good use. Our wedding kicked off with a ladies only mehndi extravaganza. My event coordinators at Enamor Me found the most perfect venue to host my kickoff party, Jewel of India. Inside, the restaurant had modern damask wallpaper coupled with rich bamboo flooring and these exquisite green light fixtures accented by dark navy couches. Since the venue was already so beautiful we decided to only bring in a couple of decorations as to not take away from the existing ambiance. My favorite piece had to have been an oversized umbrella with large lantern like stars dangling that was used on our favor table. For the favors we gave guests bags filled with bangles and bindis so everyone could get into the wedding mood! My non-Indian guests later used those bindis to add a little Indian flair to their outfits at my reception.

Next up was the entertainment! Most of my mehndi party planning was a surprise thanks in large part to my staff at Enamor Me (apparently event planners don’t always make the best brides to work with) and my mom. When the entertainment portion came I really had no idea what to expect. All the women gathered in a circle and sang Punjabi folk songs and danced around me. Then my family and my husband’s family all took turns performing dances and poems in my honor with my mom and her friends performing a big finale dance. It was beautiful and exciting, and the energy and love in the room was intoxicating!

I did deviate a little bit from tradition and opted to not have my mehndi done the night of my mehndi party so I could fully socialize with all of my guests. Instead I woke up the next morning at 6am and heading over to get my mehndi done by Ambreen Rab. Ambreen was amazing and did an absolutely wonderful job. She even managed to keep me stress free and entertained for five full hours the day before my wedding!
