I am loving this new trend of throwing a Welcome Party before your big day. These days, every couple has guests flying in from across the country, and even from other countries. So what better way to let the two sides get to know each other than with a casual welcome party in an intimate setting? Let your guests break the ice at this event so they're comfortable enough to party together at the reception! It's also a great excuse to break up the monotony of lehngas and saris to wear a showstopping gown!
Abhishek and Rekha chose to host a Welcome Dinner aboard Kanan Cruises so their guests could appreciate the true beauty of Chicago's spectacular skyline and architecture. Check out these beautiful photos, complete with fireworks, and don't miss their crazy proposal story at the end of this post!

"It was 9 am, Friday, July 23rd. Abhishek surprised me at work in a red Mustang. It was magical, yet it felt like a dream. I was flabbergasted and delirious. How did he make it to work and whose car was he in? He drove the unfamiliar streets so confidently with a smile on his face and plan in his mind. Look out the window, or you'll miss it, he kept saying but where are we going, I kept questioning. Suddenly, there it was! Bold, perched sky high in a prime location and uber romantic. Our picture, our song, and the big question displayed on a massive billboard. The next day, Saturday, July 24th, a half page ad appeared in the Ledger-Enquirer declaring my acceptance. Our families and a few friends were privy to the big proposal and all the planning that went into it. I had spent many years in the advertising industry, little did I know that my life’s biggest news would be delivered through an ad message. Only The Abhishek would attempt something as bold, daring, exciting and thoughtful as this proposal. Everyone was antsy and was waiting for the big revelation. I was amazed and overwhelmed. When I could finally gather myself together I thought, My prince is real and my fairy tale is a glaring reality!The excitement didn’t end there. The local ABC affiliate station contacted me. Abhishek made history with the billboard proposal. Nobody in the city had proposed in that manner and they were eager to cover our story. This story even made it to CNN!
