Welcome to Bollywood wedding week on IndianWeddingSite.com! The past couple weeks were filled with over the top Bollywood weddings that we couldn't keep ourselves from sharing with you. Glamour, check. High profile designers, check. Gorgeous couples, check! Lots of ideas up for grabs from these weddings, some great, and some a bit crazy.
Let's start off with Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan. He doesn't do it for me, but I'm sure millions of women around the world would disagree!
The couple was engaged last year in a private ceremony. According to Miss Indian Bride
, the bride-to-be was a hot mess in her Varun Bahl lehnga, and we have to agree. Luckily, she switched to designer to the stars, Manish Malhotra, for her big day. More on MIB's take on Avantika's engagement look here
The couple had their invitations designed by Uttara Shah, a leading designer based in Mumbai. She came up with the concept of creating a 2011 planner with the invitation wording on the page for January 10th. The planner was sent out in a black box along with chocolates and potpourri. A very cute idea, but one that would not be very practical to recreate given the postage charges! For their Mehndi invitation, the designer created a pink and yellow pinwheel with the details of the event attached. Guests were told to skip the stilettos and wear comfortable shoes for this big party.
Imran and Avantika's Sangeet was held at the bride's parents' farmhouse in Karjat and little expense was spared. Guests were sent swipe cards with the invitations to ensure maximum security. The bride skipped the bling and opted for a more simple red lehnga by Manish Malhotra. I wish she would have at least added a necklace to her ensemble! The groom opted for a velvet sherwani by Karan Johar-Varun Bahl which seemed a bit too similar to the one worn by Vivek Oberoi at his recent wedding reception
I know a lot of you are hoping to minimize the covered-in-crystals look for your upcoming weddings, so Avantika's Sangeet style may provide some great inspiration for you.
We'll be back with a recap of Imran and Avantika's wedding and reception in just a bit!
