Unitarian and Hindu Fusion Wedding

There are a variety of ways to handle different religious backgrounds on your wedding day. Laura and Raj decided to combine ceremonies with a Unitarian minister and a Hindu priest co-officiating.

From the bride: “When we finally tied the knot, we wanted to have a wedding that really reflected both who we are as individuals, and what we are as a couple. This was challenging, because we come from very different backgrounds – I grew up in a Christian family on a small-town farm, and Raj grew up in a Hindu family whose parents were first generation.

After the minister did the initial welcomes, we completed a traditional Hindu ceremony in a mandap, which included traditions like saptapadi and jai mala. Afterward, we exchanged rings and traditional Western vows, allowing us to cement our marriage in the traditions of each of our cultures.”
