Anjali and Paul

We have a beautiful inter-cultural wedding for you today, photographed by Metropolitan Imageworks. Anjali and Paul wanted to create a wedding that spoke to their individual cultures, which they felt would be best achieved by having two distinct ceremonies.

The couple kicked off their wedding day with a traditional Christian ceremony in a majestic church with a high cathedral ceiling.

From the bride: “Seeing as how I am first generation Indian and Paul is an Irish immigrant, we certainly wanted to have a wedding that reflected Irish traditions (bag pipes, readings from the wedding were Irish…Oscar Wilde and a Celtic Blessing) and Indian traditions with the traditional Hindu ceremony and red sari, which is a traditional bride color.”

Anjali and Paul followed up their gorgeous Christian ceremony with a location change that took them to Chicago’s premier wedding venue, the InterContinental Hotel, for their Hindu ceremony. Anjali changed from a simple white gown to a traditional red sari and Paul joined her as he put on a delicately embroidered kurta in dark navy.

The couple converted a simple, white mandap into a contemporary wedding stage using tons of pink lighting.  We love the romance and glamour added by the clear crystals draping all sides of the mandap.

Anjali and Paul ended their night with a perfect reception combining two cultures with a celebration of colors. Metropolitan Imageworks captured the essence of the night through images that show how elegantly the colors white and red were used to show the merging of two cultures and lives.

The décor was not overdone, to really allow the spectacular venue to shine. But we do love the dramatic welcome table arrangement. The four tiered white cake perfectly took elements from Indian culture by adding red flowers as accents to the pure white cake.
