Deepika and Vishal

Deepika kicked off her wedding festivities with a beautifully planned “Pretty-in-Pink” Sangeet the night before the wedding. Every detail of the event was pink, down to the attire of ALL of the guests! Even the men joined in on the festivities by wearing a shade of pink.  Wondering how to throw a sophisticated and feminine pretty-in-pink wedding event of your own? Pink details from this Sangeet included pink churriyan for the ladies, pink candles and décor, pink lanterns and umbrellas and more!

Like many of you, Deepika hadn’t been planning her wedding day since she was a little girl. Nor was she interested in planning a lavish million dollar production. What she wanted to plan was a sparkling sendoff to a beautiful marriage!

From the bride: “You won’t find ice sculptures or chiavari chairs.  There are no doves being released at the beginning, middle or end of the ceremony.  The Groom is not arriving on an elephant or any sort of jungle animal (at least not to my knowledge). "

There is no fancy lighting with our initials cascading from the ceilings.  You will not find even a single red rose let alone an entire arrangement of red roses filling the center of each table. Nope.  None of that.  Why?  Because I am the New Indian Bride.” Deepika’s Prince Charming chose to arrive at the wedding venue in a 1930′s Rolls Royce instead of on a traditional white horse.

From the bride: “Not only did he look extra dashingly handsome stepping out of these vintage wheels but the car made the perfect accessory for our pre-ceremony photo shoot!”

Given the bold colors of their lehngas and jewelry, most Indian brides opt for shoes in the usual gold, silver or beige. Such a treat to see the purple peaking through in these photos by Harvard Photography!

In a sea of ballroom weddings, it is so refreshing to come across one that goes against the grain and stands out with its own style and personality. Deepika transformed her alma mater, Scripps College, into the perfect venue for her charming Indian wedding. A large white tent was adorned with yellow curtains hand made by her mother and Masi, and accented by strings of bright orange marigolds. A bird cage chandelier hung over round tables decorated with tall centerpieces filled with lemons and limes, as well as colorful flowers in terra cotta pots.

Instead of the traditional bridesmaids in the wedding party, our bride chose to include bridesmen dressed in grey suits and purple ties. A wonderful idea we hope to see more often! All of the creative elements came together to create a wedding that should be included in the pages of Style Me Pretty.
