Imran Khan and Avantika

Imran Khan and Avantika Malik were engaged last year in a private ceremony. Avantika chose designer Manish Malhotra for her big day.

The couple had their invitations designed by Uttara Shah, a leading designer based in Mumbai. She came up with the concept of creating a 2011 planner with the invitation wording on the page for January 10th. The planner was sent out in a black box along with chocolates and potpourri. A very cute idea, but one that would not be very practical to recreate given the postage charges! For their Mehndi invitation, the designer created a pink and yellow pinwheel with the details of the event attached. Guests were told to skip the stilettos and wear comfortable shoes for this big party.

Imran and Avantika’s Sangeet was held at the bride’s parents’ farmhouse in Karjat and little expense was spared. Guests were sent swipe cards with the invitations to ensure maximum security.  The bride skipped the bling and opted for a simpler red lehnga by Manish Malhotra. The groom opted for a velvet sherwani by Karan Johar-Varun Bahl.

Because the couple comes from Hindu and Muslim backgrounds, they opted for a simple civil ceremony in Mumbai. At a wedding party later that night, the bride wore a grey Manish Malhotra lehnga with a maroon and gold border. Imran opted for a black bandhgala by Karan Johar-Varun Bahl.
