Modern Indian Engagement Gifts

Just received an engagement party invitation and don’t have a clue what to get for the couple? We’re here to help. Add a modern twist to those old-fashioned gifts your parents will suggest to find the perfect idea.

Old-Fashioned: Check
Modern: Gift Certificate

Unsure of the exact gift the couple will love? Why give them an impersonal check when you can still show them you care. Surprise the bride-to-be with a gift certificate to a spa so she can relieve some of the upcoming wedding planning stress. If the couple loves wine, try a gift certificate from wine.com.

Old-Fashioned: Wedding Album
Modern: Wedding Website

Couples these days will get customized wedding albums put together by their photographer, so giving them a wedding album is not the best idea. But if you still want to give them a way to express their wedding, buy them a wedding website. Many websites will give you the option to purchase a site for a couple. Just make sure they haven’t already purchased one!

Old-Fashioned: Indian Sweets
Modern: Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Does the bride-to-be have a sweet tooth? Skip the Indian sweets and get the couple a dozen chocolate covered strawberries. Our favorites are from Godiva, Red Envelope and Edible Arrangements. You can never go wrong with chocolate!

Old-Fashioned: Words of Wisdom from an Auntie
Modern: Bridal Magazine Subscription or Relationship Book

What can we say; aunties just love to impart their years of wisdom on the young couples waiting to be married. Since we’re assuming you don’t have the same wisdom to share, we recommend getting the couple a book with modern day relationship advice. Alternatively, you can get the bride a subscription or two to bridal magazines that you think she would love.

Old-Fashioned: Toaster or Blender
Modern: Picnic Basket

Gone are the days of toasters and blenders. The modern engaged couples are spending a lot of time together outdoors and need to be well equipped. Why not give them a gift that will encourage a romantic date out in a beautiful park? You’re guaranteed to be remembered and thanked!
