About Renee
Renee “Neetu” was born in San Fernando Valley but grew up mostly in Barstow. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ved and Mridula Shandil. She is the youngest of three children. Her brother is currently working for MTV and her sister is happily married and residing in northern California.
Renee attended University of California, Riverside and received a Bachelor's degree in Biology. After undergrad she went to Loma Linda University to obtain her dual Masters in Public Health (and to meet her future husband). She is currently at Western University of Health Science School of Medicine. She will receive her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in May 2006. She will begin her Internal Medicine Residency Training at University of Southern California/Los Angeles County Medical Center in late June.
Over the past 8 years that we have known one another, I continue to be amazed at her true passion and energy to her family and friends. I believe I am lucky to have found my perfect match with someone who is able to blend into all aspects of my life so seamlessly. Renee’s love for her family, her traditional Indian values and cultural believes coupled with her strong desire for success in her career and her family are only a few of the reasons that I have fallen for her. It is these aspects of her personality along with her beautiful smile that brightens up my life that I have found someone I am able to call my best friend and life partner.

About Ashu
Ashu was born in Ludiana, India and moved to Southern California when he was 6 years old. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arun and Satwantar Palta. He has one younger brother is recently graduated from UCLA and is currently working in Los Angeles.
Ashu attended University of California, Los Angeles and received a degree in Physiological Sciences. After completing his undergraduate studies, he went to Loma Linda University and obtained a Masters in Public Health. Ashu currently works as a manager for the County of Orange Health Care Agency. The preceding lists the facts about Ashu, now allow me a moment to describe the person I treasure as my best friend. I find myself quite fortunate to have found my perfect match and soul mate in this die-hard bruin fan. Ashu’s multidimensional personality extends from his intellect to his passion for sports (in particular basketball and football) to his fondness for Indian films and Kabali’s (predominantly Amitabh Bachchan film songs) to his never-ending love for this family. Ashu’s outgoing personality and sense of humor has continued to entertain and light up my life for the past 8 years. He has the amazing capability to make you feel comfortable and secure in any situation, perhaps it is because of his almost neurotic need to plan ahead (preferably on an Excel spreadsheet.) Energetic, Dependable, Dedicated, Comedian, Affectionate, Irresistible, Devoted, Passionate – these are just a few of the words that can be used to describe the person that he embodies, yet the true personality of Ashu can only be captured by meeting him in person.

How we met
In 1998, Renee and Ashu met in the computer laboratory at Loma Linda University School of Public Health. There is some debate as to the details of their first few encounters…...and even more debate as to who pursued whom. A computer lab "dare", dinner and a game of pool at 'Q's' in Old town Pasadena, the film - Monster's Inc. and a random mysterious goodbye e-mail are a few of the specifics of our love story which remain to be controversial. The one thing that is not debatable is their enduring love and devotion to one another.

Proposal
Here is the scenario – take two “Type A” personalities and attempt to create a surprise proposal story and I am sure you will understand where the problem lies. Although our love story has been evolving over the years, it was on a Friday night in Newport Beach, tucked in the secluded tatami room of the Kitayama Restaurant, accented by a gorgeous bouquet of red roses, that the official proposal took place. |
How we celebrated
With much gratitude to our very close friends, we would like to thank everyone for the awesome celebration of our engagement at the Hollywood Canteen in Hollywood, California on March 18, 2006. Festivities included fine Italian dining, dancing to the beats of hip-hop and top 40’s and a delicious tiramisu engagement cake.
